What is ERF?

Global warming, nuclear energy, greenhouse gasses, fracking, oil and coal are widely deliberated topics, with environmentally safe sustainable options for waste management often at the forefront of all discussions. Landfills are and will continue to be a major concern, as they release leachate, Methane and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Such gasses are highly harmful to our health. Luckily, there is a solution. And better yet, it’s one that poses no threat to our communities, individuals or environment as a whole. 

The resolution we are referring to is the intention of Energy Recovery Facilities, otherwise abbreviated and known as ERF. Specially designed to take care of waste that is unsuitable for recycling or unable to be put in a compost, such facilities tackle waste management and climate issues by using what would otherwise be considered ‘rubbish’ to generate heat and power. The heat and power created from residual waste via ERF is then used as valuable electrical and thermal energy.

Renewable energy solutions of this kind are modern, safe and proven to be maintainable, effective and lucrative. The technology is advanced and as of 2005, all waste plants must meet stringent criteria to ensure the paramount safety of both its workers and the public.

A common misconception about the use of Energy Recovery Facilities is that they deter people from recycling and reducing waste. Energy Recovery is to be used in conjunction with recycling and our mission is not to take away the incentive to re-use. Our mission is to educate businesses on their obligations to manage their waste streams.
